On May 31st, 2023 the chemical management trainers of the SMART Factories Programme are organizing another workshop as part of the 2023 series on safe and resource efficient management of chemicals in the garment, textile and footwear industry. This workshop is held in Yangon and is especially for participants who have joined the earlier sessions in 2023 on GHS labeling and hazardous waste management, as this workshop builds on and reinforces prior knowledge shared in those sessions.

SMART Factories is now part of MADE, the Multi-Stakeholder Alliance for Decent Employment in Myanmar. The project's work on advanced chemical management focuses on wet processing units (dyeing mills, textile printing factories, denim jeans washing facilities and footwear factories) and promotes Zero Discharge of Hazardou Chemicals (ZDHC), Globally Harmonized System (GHS) compliance and, in general safe and resource efficient management of chemicals within the textile, clothing and footwear industries in Myanmar. Under the social compliance programme of MADE, the basics of safe chemical management within the apparel industry are also addressed. Staff from 23 factories so far participated in the chemical management workshop series during the first quarter of 2023.
