On Nov. 14th the SMART Chemical Management & Detox Program will be concluding a 2nd program round with 6 factories and launching a new 3rd program round with 4 new factories.

Factories participating in this program learn about chemical inventory management and chemical risk management. Especially, SMART's experienced trainers help factories strengthen environmental management systems and policies, chemical purchasing practices, ensure adequate usage and knowledge on personal protective equipment, explain in detail about the global harmonized system (GHS) and its pictograms and hazard statements, teach potential for adverse chemical reactions, how to practice disaster mitigation, hazardous waste disposal best practices in Myanmar, the ZDHC manufacturers' restricted substances list (MRSL) and other related topics.

This program is especially suitable for teaching and building up the capacities of Myanmar speaking management and staff to handle chemicals safely and to minimize impacts on the natural environment. SMART's trainers for this program include accredited ISO 14001 lead auditors who have furthermore completed extensive training with a senior chemical engineer from GIZ PSES and with trainers of the Myanmar Chemical Industry Association.
